Beer Luck: Cellar Raid
This past Thursday I had a beer tasting at my place with fellow Beer Advocate members PaulV, youkinorn, and shufon. While everyone pretty much raided their cellars and/or went to the bottle shop before the tasting with no arranged style/theme in mind…most of the beers were Wild Ales (Cigar City Vuja De, Ithaca LeBleu, Ithaca Brute 1st Batch), IPA’s (Alpine Exponential Hoppiness, Cigar City Jai Alai Cedar Aged IPA), Barleywines (East End Gratitude 09, SN Bigfoot 07, Pelican Mother of All Storms, Firestone Walker Abacus), and Stouts (Cigar City Hunapu, Mikkeller Beer Geek Brunch Weasel, Great Divide Espresso Oak Aged Yeti).
Biggest Winner- the Ithaca Brute and East End Gratitude were amazing. The Gratitude in particular was one of the smoothest barleywine’s I’ve had to date.
Biggest Loser- Cigar City Vuju De was not up to usual Cigar City standards. It had a metallic off-putting finish which became more pronounced after every sip.
Overall a great tasting…a lot of fun…and a chance to try some pretty rare/great beer. Thanks to everyone involved.
