THE BEER GUNNER

Grains. Hops. Water. Yeast.

Here our some pics of the 5 gallon Bourbon barrel we picked up from Kings County distillery in Brooklyn last weekend. We are planning to brew an imperial stout in January and let it sit in the barrel for a few months so it will pick up all the great oak, bourbon, and vanilla flavors. Cheers!

Beer Luck: Stout
Thanks to everyone for coming out to the latest beer luck. It was one of the best tastings yet, and we tried several fantastic styles of stout including oatmeal stouts, coffee and chocolate infused stouts, imperial stouts, and bourbon barrel aged stouts. Though all the stouts we tasted were very good a few definitely stood out. Most of us thought the Goose Island Bourbon County was among the best due to its complex range of flavors ranging from leather to dark fruits, while the Founders Breakfast Stout and Peche Mortel both had a fantastic roasted coffee flavor. In addition the Brooklyn Black Ops stood out because of its nice bourbon flavors and high drinkability, while the Oskar Blues Ten Fidy, Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout, and Bells Expedition Stout were all lovely beers with exceptional mouthfeel and the dark roasty flavors and warming sensation you would expect from an imperial stout.
